Cattlemen’s Heritage Beef Company announced last week the purchase of a 132-acre site in Mills County where it plans to build a 2,000-head capacity processing facility. The company has been eyeing the location since June 2021.

An economic impact statement placed a value of $1.1 billion annually on the local economy and up to 800 jobs. Right off Interstate 29 and proximity to I-80 logistically makes the area a prime location. Cattlemen’s Heritage last year selected a leading algae-based wastewater treatment company to provide contained treatment at the site. The technology will also capture and offset several thousand tons of carbon dioxide per year.
