The latest USDA Crop Progress Report indicates corn and soybean planting has entered the final stretch, with 97% of the corn crop and 90% of the soybean crop planted as of June 8. Minnesota and North Carolina became the first two states to wrap up corn planting.

The top 18 corn-growing states report that 78% of the corn crop has emerged. The crop is rated as 71% good to excellent, 24% fair and 5% poor or very poor.

Soybean planting is 2% ahead of the five-year average as of June 8. Across the top 18 states, 75% of the soybean crop has emerged. This is 3% ahead of the five-year average. The crop is rated 68% good to excellent, 27% fair and 5% poor or very poor.

The USDA shared that 88% of the winter wheat crop has headed. That is 2% ahead of the five-year average. Six of the 18 states indicated that 4% of the winter wheat was harvested as of June 8. That is 7% behind the five-year average. Winter wheat condition is rated at 54% good to excellent, 30% fair and 16% poor or very poor.

The top six spring-wheat growing states report that 8% of the crop had emerged. Minnesota, South Dakota and Washington indicated that 100% of the crop had emerged. Spring wheat conditions are reported as 53% good to excellent, 38% fair and 9% poor to very poor.
