During a tour of derecho damage, farms and other ag facilities in Iowa on Thursday, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue said the U.S. Department of Agriculture will release rules for a second round of Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP) payments next week. The aid will likely come in the form of low-interest loans for farmers and agribusinesses adversely affected by the virus. The secretary said ethanol producers and other ag processors won’t be eligible for CFAP-2 payments in the coronavirus relief bill already passed by the House of Representatives. Thus far, the federal government has distributed $9.4 billion in CFAP payments, according to USDA. Read more about the CFAP payments in the works.
