Americans receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits will receive a more than 20% increase to their monthly allotment for FY2022, beginning Oct. 1. The average SNAP recipient will receive an increase of $36.24 per person, per month due to the USDA’s re-evaluation of the Thrifty Food Plan. This is the first time the Thrifty Food Plan has been used to change SNAP budgets since it was first introduced in 1975. See more reasoning behind the increase and comments from industry experts.
