The U.S. House of Representatives will entertain bipartisan legislation that calls for the sale of E15 across the country throughout the entire year. The 15% blend of ethanol, also known as Unleaded 88, has long been locked out of the market in the summer months due to a regulatory discrepancy.
The legislation would mark a landmark victory for renewable fuel advocates and U.S. corn growers, who would see increased and sustained domestic demand for the corn-based fuel. The bill, titled the Consumer and Fuel Retailer Choice Act of 2022, was introduced with a companion bill in the U.S. Senate last week. The renewed legislative effort comes after a letter written to Congressional leaders in late November from a coalition of biofuel, agriculture and oil organizations – marking the first time such a coalition has formed to support E15.
