New research from Kansas State revealed additional nutritional benefits in soybean meal for pigs. Soybean meal contains a vital source of essential amino acids, which helps drive growth. Still, the newly released research also showed meal also boosted energy levels leading to improved feed efficiency. The study, in partnership with the United Soybean Board, found that soybean meal had nearly 105% the energy content of corn, though some experts say this figure will vary from study to study.

The new data leads experts to hypothesize why soybean meal now shows these additional benefits. Some believe past data was too conservative, while others point to more technologically advanced processing methods producing higher-quality meal. While some are a bit skeptical of the data, overall, the study is a positive result for pig and soybean farmers.
