New data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) revealed that damage from 18 weather disasters in 2022 totaled north of $168 billion. Dating back to when the report was first generated in 1980, 2022 marked the third most costly year in weather-related damages.
Drought was the biggest culprit, estimated at roughly $22.2 billion in damages, but several severe weather outbreaks across the U.S., including tornadoes and hurricanes in the Southeast, also brought significant impact.
