Northern Corn Belt Farmers are still assessing this weekend’s cold snap and if it caused any damage to their fields. Reports show northern Iowa experienced one of the latest freezes in the region’s history (the only years beating it out were 1897 and 1947). A family in Hampton, Iowa, reported one night hit 32 degrees resulting in a near complete no-till soybean crop loss for their farm — others who had tilled their fields were fairing better. Crop insurance adjusters are walking fields this week so the verdict is still out on the amount of losses. See photos from the damaging freeze.
