In 2021, organic apples accounted for a whopping 15.9% of total retail apple sales, at $660 million. In October of this year, more than 1,000 U.S. consumers were surveyed on their organic purchasing habits as part of The Packer’s Organic Fresh Trends 2023 report used for marketers and retailers. The survey provides insight into demographic and decision-making trends.
The report shows that 10% of shoppers look to purchase organic apples exclusively, with a higher likelihood of purchase from higher-income familes with kids and shoppers under 40 years old.
Age difference remains a key indicator of the priority of purchase intentions for organic apples. Only 3% of consumers over 60 said they exclusively purchase organic apples, compared to 21% of 30-39-year-olds and 22% of 18-29-year-olds.
