Despite inflation and supply chain challenges, fresh produce remains a consumer favorite in retail stores with continued opportunities for growth. The Power of Produce 2023 conference held over the weekend revealed this and several produce-focused key takeaways.

In a report from FMI, The Food Industry Association, produce department sales grew just under 5% to $74.5 billion in 2022, even as inflation caught up with consumers in the checkout lane. The report revealed that 89% of consumers are somewhat or very concerned about the price of fresh produce and 84% say they have used money-saving strategies in their produce purchases.

One way grocery retailers are taking advantage of the “budget opportunity” is by offering weekly specials or tying purchases to reduced fuel prices.
