Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins announced that the United States is finalizing a trade agreement with Mexico that could expand U.S. ethanol exports by 32%. Speaking Monday after a tour of an ADM processing plant in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Rollins called it a “deal in concept” and noted the conversations with Mexico to expand ethanol exports had been ongoing for the past year. In her speech, Rollins estimated the agreement could add $1.5 billion for the U.S. ethanol industry.

Though Rollins noted official terms and timing are still to come, more ethanol demand from Mexico could give corn growers and processing plants a new outlet.
