Monday’s USDA Crop Progress report showed some slight progress in corn and soybean planting. The fourth report of the year pegged corn at 7% planted and soybeans at 3%. Both crops are lagging behind their previous five-year average, for corn that is 15% and soybeans 5%. Of the corn that is planted, 2% has emerged, just a tick behind the 3% five-year average. Spring wheat was reported 13% planted compared to 15% as a five-year average but is 1% higher than estimates. Oats are reported 39% planted, compared to a five-year average of 48%.
