The Georgia Department of Agriculture confirmed the presence of spotted lanternflies in Fulton County. It urges farmers to remain vigilant and report sightings. Egg masses should be immediately destroyed to prevent spread.

The lanternfly is native to Asia. It threatens over 100 plant species. This includes grapes, apples, peaches and hardwood trees. Adult lanternflies have spotted gray wings and red underwings. Egg masses are often found on trees, vehicles and equipment. These egg masses can survive the winter.

Farmers are advised to keep a close eye on fields, orchards and vineyards to prevent losses.
