The USDA Crop Progress Report indicates that most crop planting remains ahead of the five-year average. U.S. corn planting surpassed the halfway point, while soybeans are getting close as of May 11.

Corn was reported at 62% planted. This is 6% of the five-year average of 56%. As of Sunday, 28% of the corn crop had emerged. That is 7% ahead of the 21% five-year average.

The USDA projected that 48% of soybeans were planted. This compares to the five-year average of 37%. As of May 11, 17% of the soybean crop has emerged. This is 6% ahead of the average.

Spring wheat is forecast at 66% planted. As of Sunday, 27% had emerged. This is ahead of the average pace.

Winter wheat remains on track with 53% of the crop headed. Fifty-four percent of the crop is rated in good to excellent shape.

Rice is also trending ahead of pace with 80% planted and 64% emerged. Currently, 77% of the crop is rated good to excellent.

Rain delays have slowed cotton planting, with 28% of the crop planted. The average is 34%.
