Butterfat came in at $3.40 per pound in August, $3.36 in July and $3.33 in June and it is likely the dairy product will post a fifth straight record in October.

Butter prices will eventually fall back once supply catches up with demand, as retailers rush to fill shelves heading into a busy winter baking season when butter demand runs highest. But, even when butter falls, powder could take its place.
