There remains around $15 billion in Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP) payments earmarked for the ag sector that have yet to be distributed, and it sounds like it will be another few weeks before that begins to happen, according to U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack. It’s partially to ensure the resources go to the right industry members as the Senate continues debate on the latest COVID relief package. Vilsack said the unclear timeframe stems from his agency’s desire to ensure money goes to those in the ag supply chain who need the assistance most, and analysis is underway to determine who those people, companies and organizations are. The CFAP funding was approved by Congress in December, earmarking $13 billion for agriculture and including $20/acre payments for trigger- and flat-rate-crop producers. As of now, the CFAP payments are likely “on hold for at least several more weeks.” See more on the CFAP payment progress.
