U.S. egg production has declined in the last year. USDA data says 109.526 billion eggs were produced in 2023, slightly lower than in 2022. Lower average production for laying hens is likely a root cause, with production coming in at 286 eggs per layer.

Meanwhile, commercial broiler inventory was 523 million, 1% higher than in 2022. In total, the value of all chickens was $3.76 billion, an 11% increase year-to-year with an average value of $7.20 per bird, a gain of $.64. Relative steadiness and value growth in the poultry industry bodes well for commodity grain growers watching the feed markets.
