Farmers had another big week of progress with corn and soybean harvest, according to Monday’s USDA-NASS Crop Progress report. Corn harvest is past 60%, up almost 20% in the last week. That’s a major jump, especially compared to corn progress a year ago, which sat at 28% as of this week. Farmers in Michgan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin are the only ones among the 18 states tracked in USDA reports that haven’t crossed the halfway point. Soybean harvest is 75% complete, up 14% over the last week. Last year, only 40% of the crop was out of the field. Progress estimates for both crops fell just short of previous trade estimates. Meanwhile, wheat farmers have 77% of the winter wheat crop in the ground, up nine percent in the last week. In the southeast, rice harvest is near completion while cotton and peanut harvest are at 34% and 41% completion, respectively. See more of the numbers.
