Opportunities for U.S. red meat exports abound as China officially announced reductions in COVID-19 restrictions. U.S. Meat Export Federation Vice President Joel Haggard cautions, however, saying it will be a “bumpy ride” as COVID continues to move in waves throughout the country. Pork exports to China have been lower year-over-year but did rebound a bit in the last half of 2022.

Meanwhile, beef export value to the country has increased 50% from 2021 to just under $2 billion. The meat industry is optimistic about the renewed opportunity, particularly coming off excellent beef exports to wrap up 2022.
