The Northern Plains and the Upper Midwest have largely missed out on the litany of storm systems that have brought much-needed moisture to many other areas. Because of this, drought has been creeping back in many places from Montana to Wisconsin. Soil moisture maps currently show long-standing moisture deficits that trace back to 2020. But relief could be coming soon.

These areas are set to receive some meaningful precipitation due to a storm track moving across central Canada. A clipper-like storm system will move from Montana through Michigan today and Friday with streaks of showers or possible snow. But the real moisture will come from the good band of snow that should work across the same region shortly after.
