Soybeans show the effect of the drought near Navasota, TXWhile more than 45% of the United States is classified in drought conditions, the southwest, particularly Texas, is being hit the hardest. The latest reports show that over 80% of Texas is facing drought conditions, with 17% of the state experiencing “exceptional drought.” These figures are starting to draw comparisons to 2011, when drought caused over $7.6 billion in crop and livestock losses.

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) data show concerning trends, predicting summer weather in Texas will remain above temperatures seen in 2021. May temperatures for this year also topped those experienced in May 2011.
