As harvest wraps up, farmers revisit the fall tillage decision-making process that can leave many scratching their heads. Farm Journal Field Agronomist Ken Ferrie says growers should make plans to till yet this year if field conditions remain dry. Waiting for dry conditions next spring could be questionable, so it is safe to level fields out for a sterile seedbed now while dryness is a certainty.
However, the dry conditions make no-till an excellent option for both corn and soybean fields in 2023. Ferrie also led many test plots related to soybean row spacing, sulfur products and application timings on soybeans.
