As of last Sunday, U.S. corn crops showed mild improvement and soybean conditions have held steady according to the USDA Crop Progress report, released August 9. Both remain above their five-year averages. Corn is progressing nicely with 95% in the silk stage, 56% in the dough stage and 8% in dent (slightly down from the 11% five-year average). Overall corn conditions increased 2% over last week and now sit at 64% good-to-excellent. Soybeans have held steady at 60% good-to-excellent, with now 91% blooming and 72% setting pods. Spring wheat was rated at 11% good-to-excellent condition, ahead 1% from the five-year average, with 38% harvested. See how the conditions compare to previous years.
