A new online tool is available for U.S. farmers and ranchers impacted by this year’s severe drought to help document and estimate potential payments from USDA. The program is a part of the Emergency Assistance for Livestock, Honeybees and Farm-raised Fish Program (ELAP). After drought stressed much of the country’s ranchers, USDA updated the program to include drought-related transportation costs, as well as lower the threshold for when water hauling assistance is available. The tool requires Microsoft Excel, and a tutorial video is available at www.fsa.usda.gov/elap. USDA will begin accepting applications for the program later this fall. Read more on ELAP here.
