The latest USDA weekly Crop Progress Report, released Monday, showed corn conditions holding firm while soybean ratings slipped slightly. Crop development for both corn and soybeans remains ahead of last year’s pace, and harvest activity across small grains and other crops continues to gain ground.

Corn

  • 57% rated good-to-excellent this week, steady with last week and 12 points down from last year (69%).
  • Dough stage at 92%, ahead of last year’s pace ahead of last year and the five-year average (both 89%).
  • Dented at 62%, running ahead of last year, ahead of last year and the five-year average (both 56%).
  • 13% mature, down 1% from last year but on pace with the five-year average.

Soybeans

  • 58% rated good-to-excellent, a modest dip from last week (60%).
  • Pod-setting at 95%, ahead of last year and the five-year average (both 93%).
  • Dropping leaves at 13%, ahead of last year and the five-year average (10%, 9% respectively).

Spring Wheat

  • Harvest reached 77% complete nationally.
  • Progress is running ahead of both last year and the five-year average (69% and 68%, respectively).

Other Crops

  • Sorghum, rice, oats and barley all posted harvest progress on pace or ahead of last year.
