The latest USDA weekly Crop Progress Report, released Monday, showed soybean harvest kicking off ahead of both last year and the five-year average pace. Corn harvest also continued slightly ahead of normal. Crop development across the board remains solid with a mixed weather picture set to test harvest progress in some regions this week, according to DTN Ag Meteorologist John Baranick.

Corn

  • 8% harvested nationally, 1 point ahead of last year’s 7% and 2 points ahead of the five-year average of 6%.
  • 57% rated good-to-excellent, up 1 point from last week but still 10 points below last year’s 67%.
  • Dented at 86%, 3 points ahead of last year (83%) and 2 points ahead of the five-year average (84%).
  • Mature at 42%, 3 points ahead of last year (39%) and 4 points ahead of the five-year average (38%).


Soybeans

  • 6% harvested as of Sunday in the season’s first soybean harvest report, 1 point ahead of last year’s 5% and 3 points ahead of the five-year average of 3%.
  • 58% rated good-to-excellent, unchanged from last week but 5 points below last year’s 63%.
  • Dropping leaves at 44%, 6 points ahead of last year (38%) and 7 points ahead of the five-year average (37%).


Spring Wheat

  • Harvest reached 93% complete as of Sunday, on pace with last year and 1 point ahead of the five-year average of 92%.
  • South Dakota’s harvest was estimated at 100% complete, with Minnesota at 98% finished.


Winter Wheat

  • Planting progress estimated at 8% complete nationally, 2 points behind last year’s 10% and 4 points behind the five-year average of 12%.
