The deadline for signing up for the USDA Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) was originally set for this Friday. With renewed interest in growing general CRP enrollments, that deadline has been lifted indefinitely for both new contracts and those expiring later this year. The last four years saw CRP lose around 4 million acres, as USDA officials say, because of reduced rental payments and incentives for the 10- and 15-year contracts. Officials didn’t provide an estimate for a new signup deadline, but said “producers will have the opportunity to adjust or resubmit their offers to take advantage of planned improvements to the program.” See more on the CRP deadline change.
