USDA’s Build Back Better initiative has announced a $55.2 million grant will go towards expanding the meat packing industry. The initiative aims to invest a total of $4 billion to strengthen the U.S. food system. The grant was spurred by the bottleneck response to the increased demands and supplies of U.S. beef due to lack of hook space. Current meat and poultry packing facilities can apply by August 2nd, 2021 to receive funds to expand or improve efficiencies as well as those that wish to create new meat packing businesses.
