To give a nationwide snapshot of up-to-date U.S cattle inventories, the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) will be surveying 41,000 cattle operations in January. The information, which will include beef and dairy inventories, calf crop, death loss and cattle on feed, is expected to provide producers with insights in the new year. These new insights will allow producers to make better, more timely operational decisions, including whether to expand or reduce herds. Experts also note this data will help packers and government leaders forecast expected volumes, which, in turn, determines available export supplies.
The results will be published in the cattle report, to be released January 31, 2022, and found at www.nass.usda.gov/publications.
