Following a similar trend from March, the June USDA Acreage Report brought a number of surprises against expectations. Analysts were predicting total corn and soybean acres would rise considerably from March with a goal of 183 million acres planted; however actuals were shorted yet again with a total of 180.3 million corn and soybean acres, per June’s update. Corn, however, came in up 2% from 2020 (92.7 million acres), with soybeans up 5% (87.6 million acres) and wheat up 5% (46.7 million acres). Cotton was down 3% (11.7 million acres).
