Two Piglets Looking at CameraWith the enforcement of Prop 12 on the horizon, many pig farmers are simply wondering, “what does this mean for me?” Michael Formica, National Pork Producer Council’s chief legal strategist, says starting July 1, farmers need to have Prop-12-compliant pigs if they intend to market to California.

If a farmer is already compliant, Formica says they’ll need to be certified by a California Department of Agriculture-approved auditor by the end of 2023. The state has approved three firms that can provide the certification.
