The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP), in partnership with USDA’s Risk Management Agency (RMA), has announced that December 5 will mark the open enrollment of crop insurance incentive applications for the state. The department has $800,000, or 160,000 acres of coverage to be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.
Growers will receive a $5/acre incentive on their summer 2023 crop insurance premium for acres planted with cover crops in 2022. The application will be web-based and will remain available through the end of January. Applicants awarded the incentive will be notified in spring of 2023.
