Rain on Tomatoes

The Tomato Named Peril Insurance policy is an annual policy only available in California which insures canning and processing tomatoes against physical damage to the tomato fruit caused by rain-induced mold or rot in excess of state and/or processor grade tolerances.

All insurable acreage must be covered by a written contract with a canning or processing company. The insured may choose which fields to insure and the dollar amount of coverage for each field can vary.

The sales closing date is July 31 for the current crop year. All applications are subject to a 15-day waiting period before insurance attaches. Insureds must report the acreage on which they intend to produce tomatoes by the sales closing date.
